As reported by the Thermal Power News website, Ali Akbar Mehrabian, during the inauguration ceremony of water and electricity projects across the country, stated that Iran has climbed to the 7th position in global electricity production. This achievement surpasses the combined electricity output of the European Union, Arab countries, Japan, Turkey, and South Korea.
Mr. Mehrabian further elaborated that an examination of the annual growth rate of electricity generation since the end of the Iran-Iraq War reveals a significant increase. During the presidencies of:Mr. Hashemi Rafsanjani: 5.3 terawatt-hours were added annually. Mr. Mohammad Khatami: 9.1 terawatt-hours were added annually. Mr. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: 10.8 terawatt-hours were added annually. Mr. Hassan Rouhani: 8.7 terawatt-hours were added annually. And under the current presidency of Mr. Ebrahim Raisi: 15.2 terawatt-hours have been added annually to the country's electricity production.
Iran's Energy Minister announced that the country has embarked on the construction of new power plants with a combined capacity of 22,000 megawatts. He further stated that with the timely completion of these projects, which will add 22,000 megawatts to the national grid, only 8,000 megawatts of additional power plant construction will be required to meet the Seventh Development Plan's target.
